Looking for cashmere jumpers

It’s my mum’s birthday quite soon, so I’ve been looking for cashmere jumpers that I can buy her as gifts. She’s always loved cashmere, so I know she’d like a new cashmere jumper, but finding a good one that isn’t too expensive has proved to be harder than I thought.

She’s always told me that Scottish cashmere is the very best, so I haven’t really looked at any other kind. Apparently, you can get cheaper cashmere clothing from elsewhere, but my mum has drilled it into me that this is a false economy as they don’t have the same quality of finish and so don’t last as long as Scottish cashmere.

Manufacturer of bubble envelopes breaks world record

Pendragon Packaging, who normally manufacture bubble envelopes, has set a new world record by creating the world’s biggest ever envelope.

The company, who also specialise in gift and promotional packaging and are based in Great Malvern, Worcestershire, were given the record after producing a mammoth 9.98 by 8.24 metre envelope.

Created for stamp manufacturer Stanley Gibbons, the giant envelope was hung in the Business Design Centre in Islington to commemorate the London Festival of Stamps.

Pendragon, a small business with a staff of just 35, took three days to produce the envelope, which weighs in at a hefty 25g. Work on the envelope took place in the school hall of Great Malvern Primary School, where Tarika Vara of the Guiness Book of Records confirmed its record-breaking status.

The record was a first for the town of Great Malvern, as no world records had ever been set there before. After the record was confirmed, the envelope was rolled up and transported to London on the back of a 40 foot articulated lorry.

George Silverman, the manager of envelope sales at Pendragon, stated: “It’s not every day you get to produce an item like this. We were excited by the possibility and enjoyed the challenge”.

Bubble wrap fun

For once, I’m actually being quite organised when it comes to Christmas this year. I’ve already got all my present bought (well, most of them, anyway), and I’ve spent the last few hours wrapping them all. I bought a really nice glass vase for my sister, and had to wrap it in bubble wrap to make sure it won’t be damaged.

Bubble wrap is great stuff. I can honestly say that I don’t know anyone who doesn’t enjoy a few innocent moments idly popping those little plastic bubbles of air. It’s quite amazingly satisfying.

Buying postal bags

Today’s mission, which I have already decided to accept, is to buy a selection of postal bags. Over the past couple of weeks I’ve been having a real clear out of my flat, throwing out a lot of the rubbish that I seem to have accumulated over the years, and selling anything that might be worth a penny or two over the Internet.

My usual eBay strategy is to set the initial asking price at whatever the postage is going to cost me, and then advertise it as “no charge for postage and packing”. Only this time I forgot about the packing bit. So, as you can imagine, I’ll be looking for the cheapest possible postal bags I can find…

Hunting for the perfect birthday gifts idea

Finding the ideal birthday gifts idea is never easy, at least not for me. I’m not exactly a huge fan of shopping, so I don’t really have a clue what’s available when it comes to gifts. I’m always left scratching my head until the very last moment, and usually end up just heading online in the end and grabbing the first thing I see on Amazon.

It’s my mate’s birthday on Saturday, and I still haven’t the foggiest what I’m going to get for him. I’m really hoping inspiration will strike in the next few days.

Saving a small fortune on car insurance

As a motorist, I seem to be constantly paying out money nowadays. The maintenance costs on my vehicle are extremely high, for example, and even things like replacement tyres are very expensive. Petrol seems to go up in price every day at the moment, as well.
However, I have managed to save a small fortune on my car insurance. I looked at a comparison website that a friend of mine had recommended, and I was amazed at the difference in costs that I saw on the site compared to the rather prohibitive amount that was printed on my renewal notice.

Saving money on the best digital camera

I have always been a keen Internet user, and I spend a large amount of time surfing the web for bargains. My weekly grocery shop is done online, for example, and most of my retail therapy is performed from the comfort of my laptop screen. I wanted to get the best digital camera recently, and I found it on the web.
Having used a comparison website to locate the lowest possible price, I was delighted to discover that I saved a small fortune on it. If I’d gone to the local high street and bought it at an electrical store I would have paid far more.

Moving in to my new home

After what seems like months of preparation and packing, I’ve finally moved in to my new home. I haven’t quite finished unpacking everything yet, but all the necessary stuff is sorted out, and I already feel quite settled.

It’s quite a change from my old place. It’s a lot bigger for a start, and I’ll certainly be glad to see the back of my old cramped little galley kitchen. My new kitchen is actually bigger than my old bedroom, which is quite a step up. After all the hassle and stress of moving, it’s nice to finally be able to put my feet up and relax.
