Why We Had to Be Anti Pigeon!

We’ve found a wonderful house in the Loire Valley for next summer, and are all very excited about the trip. It’s through a business contact of my husband’s and the owner doesn’t have much English. We were concerned to hear about him and ‘Anti Pigeon’ in one of his recent emails about our booking. After all, we’ve got nothing against pigeons and have always supported the work of the RSPB!

One of my neighbours has an au pair from Paris, who patiently explained that what the chap actually meant was bird control. It seems there has been a problem with pigeons nesting in the attic of this place, and the owner is getting in professionals before we arrive.

I like a robin as much as the next person but know that pigeons can be a real nuisance as well as potentially risky to health so I’m just glad it’s all under control.

Maximise available space with a folding table

If space is at a premium in your home, you might want to consider a folding table in order to give you more flexibility and versatility when it comes to planning your interior design.

Folding tables generally come in two types – tables designed to be folded away when not in use, and extending tables that can be folded out to their full size whenever more table space is needed. The style you choose will depend largely on your available space and how often you intend to entertain friends and family.

If you want the best deals on folding tables, it is best to utilise the power of the Internet by browsing through price comparison sites for the ultimate bargain.

Stop wasps getting into your home

Wasps are not swarming around your home waiting to find a small crack or crevice to enable them to get in. They appear at doors and windows because of smells.

The solution is to keep access areas closed to them, especially when you are cooking. This is hard, especially in summer when you need the ventilation an open window offers, but you can buy special screens or mesh blinds that will help.

You can also stop attracting wasps by moving the dustbin away from your back door, and ensure that the lid is always closed. These are just a couple of methods you can employ to prevent these pesky insects getting in.

What direction are property prices in the UK going?

There have been a few conflicting reports recently suggesting that the property market is either seeing a slight decline, has stabilised or is enjoying a period of growth. This depends on which expert and you talk to and statistics you see, but the most reliable information seems to predict a period of growth for property prices in the UK.

This is good news for property owners and the wider economy. However it is also good news for those looking to buy as the market gathers pace, there are more properties to choose from and competition that means you can really compare the properties you want in terms of real world value. Prior to the economic recovery there was a dearth of property on the market and even those who were in a position to purchase had to settle for less than they wanted in the quiet market.

Using the post code to compare house prices

The way house prices are changing across the country is one of the favoured stories in the media.

After all, it is an easy indicator of the health of the local and national economy.

It makes sense to compare house prices by post code, to see what parts of the country are recovering from the recession first, and where has been particularly badly hit.

For example, city centre areas have seen an average fall of 19.5 per cent. That is because these areas saw the most development during the boom period and were inevitably the hardest hit.

If you are buying a home as an investment, then it makes sense to look at the prices in surrounding post codes. This can give you some clue as to how the price of your home will fare.

Find out more about the price of houses.
